From the Director’s Desk:
There is plenty happening here at the office of the Board.
- Highly Accomplished and Lead Teacher workshops: There have now been a series of nine workshops led by the Quality Teaching Team at the TRB, for teachers interested in pursuing certification. We have had significant interest in 2021 and continue to work with aspiring HALT’s beyond the workshops.
- I co-presented a workshop with Queensland College of Teachers to the International Federation of Teacher Regulatory Authorities which took place online, facilitated from Glasgow Scotland. Our workshop : Recognition and reward of highly accomplished and lead teachers: perspectives from two Australian jurisdictions, showcases the difference in the implementation approaches and highlights the significant work that has been done over time in the NT and in a short time in Queensland.
- AUDIT of renewal of registration is well underway. The trained assessors have almost completed their work, all teachers selected for audit will be notified of the outcome on 2 June 2021.
- Highly Accomplished and Lead Teacher national assessor training is underway. We have 19 participants from around the Territory completing online modules and face-to-face training with Judy Petch from Cannan Consulting, increasing our pool of assessors for the growing number of applicants. The Department of Education has supported the TRB in this work by co-funding the training.
- Principal Professional Learning Opportunity: Judy Petch has designed a workshop specifically for Principals on developing a professional growth culture. At this stage we are only able to offer the workshop in Darwin on 2 June but if well attended will look to offer in Central Australia a bit later in the year. Get on to the Events page on our website and register to secure a place!
- Indigenous cultural competency in the Australian teaching workforce – National Dialogue 2021 took place in Canberra on 18-19 May. Myself and Mek Venes, Quality Teaching Consultant, participated in this very important two day workshop. It offered us an opportunity to discuss, develop and workshop solutions on how to build a culturally competent teacher workforce. This ongoing work will allow us to inform the design and development of solutions to increase the cultural competency of teachers in Australia. Find the AITSL Progress Report April 2021 here.
We look forward to seeing when we are out and about, working together for the profession in the NT.
