The inaugural meeting of the Quality Teaching Committee (QTC) took place at the Office of the Board on Wednesday 31 July.
The dedicated group of educators worked hard to guide the first draft of the Professional Development Framework and policy, in line with the recently passed TRB Legislation Amendment Bill. Our current policy is that a teacher with full registration undertake a minimum of 100 hours of professional development during their five year term of registration.
The Bill amends the Act to confirm that the Board performs the function of promoting professional development and approving a framework for the professional development of teachers. In turn the Board must provide a professional development framework and teachers must undertake professional development in accordance with the framework as a condition of their registration or authorisation.
The Board facilitates the ongoing competence of teachers and its vision is to enhance the quality of the teaching profession in the best interests of students. The Board plays a pivotal role in elevating the quality, professionalism and status of the teaching profession in the Northern Territory.
